AIGA 2020 Conference

Conference Branding

AIGA’s 2020 annual conference is to be held in Phoenix, Arizona.

Designers all over the world will come and to this conference, and different items had to be designed to be used throughout different spaces and activities. The theme of the conference was “bridges”.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Designers from all over the US.

REQUIREMENTS:

Any city where the conference would be held could be chosen, and different collateral items had to be designed.

Design: badge for staff, attendee and speaker, poster, 3D item.

Conference Icons

Colorful icons were created to represent a cactus, connecting the branding to the city where the conference
was being held. These icons were used throughout: in the poster, badges, as a pattern, in the webpage.
They were used as a symbol for AIGA 2020.

Mood Board Goal

The goal of this conference branding , was that the attendees would be reminded of Arizona and its desert vibes while in each activity was taking place and after they left. For the mood board I searched for fun and different designs, Arizona views and something that the city of Phoenix had that stood out. One of the images gave me the idea to use one of Arizona’s known bridges and redraw it as it where a “connect the dots” game, in this way making “connections” and using the conference’s bridges theme at the same time. The colors are chosen to resemble the colors of a beautiful desert sunset, the icon was done to convey the cactus’ we can encounter all over the desert.

Collateral

Making collateral materials is always fun. There’s freedom to choose what items to produce that will represent the brand best and what’s really needed for it to be successful and solve a problem.

Branding: Expanded

I decided to explore other ways in which the cactus and colors could be played with and re-design several pieces. I really like the result, and how with some extra exploration so many new ideas can come forward.

Reflection

I liked how a city setting can influence the direction your design will take. Being inspired by its surroundings, important landmarks and sights gave me an idea of what I wanted to showcase of being in a city like Phoenix, while at the same time producing material that was useful and well designed.
